GlossaryTransaction fees
Transaction fees
Transaction fees show how much all users together paid on a given day, in US dollars, to get their Bitcoin transactions into blocks. They are a measure of demand for space on the blockchain.
How to read it
- Fee spikes show phases when many people want onto the blockchain at once: during hype, during panic, or when new applications such as Inscriptions take up block space.
- Low fees mean the network is quiet and block space is cheap.
- With each halving the block subsidy falls, and fees become more important for miners. You can see their share of revenue by comparing them with “Miner revenue”.
- Because the series is calculated in US dollars, it grows with the price, even if the same amount is paid in Bitcoin.
Good to know
- Bitcoin only. One value per day; on an hourly chart it stands for the whole day. The pane header reads “Transaction fees · On-chain”.
- The fees as a multiple of their own yearly average, with zones, are shown by “mantacharts: Bitcoin transaction fees (daily total)”.
- The only settings are on the Style tab: Appearance (default: line).
