Getting startedKeyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts

All keyboard shortcuts in the terminal, how to change them, what's different on QWERTZ and Mac, and which commands you reach through the super search.

Almost everything in the terminal also works from the keyboard. The shortcuts below are the default bindings; you can change any of them. On the Mac, Cmd (⌘) replaces Ctrl and Option (⌥) replaces Alt, and the terminal shows the Mac symbols ⌘ ⌥ ⇧ there.

Note. Shortcuts don't fire while you type in a field, such as a search, a text field or the code editor. There are no keyboard shortcuts on a phone.

Change keyboard shortcuts

  1. Open Profile menu → Keyboard shortcuts or press Ctrl/.
  2. Find the shortcut with Search keyboard shortcuts… or scroll to its group (Chart & tools, Draw, Navigation).
  3. Click the shortcut in the Primary column. It says “Press a key…”.
  4. Press the new combination. Esc cancels, Del clears the binding.
  5. If another action already uses the combination, the terminal asks: Replace removes it there, Cancel leaves everything as it was.

Further options:

  • Secondary key binding: Turn it on to give each action a second combination (Secondary column). It's off by default; only then does CtrlShiftZ, for example, work for Redo.
  • Reset: The arrow icon next to a changed shortcut sets it back to the default, Reset all resets all of them.
  • Reserved: Esc, Tab, Enter, ShiftTab, CtrlW, CtrlT, CtrlN, CtrlQ, CtrlShiftT and CtrlShiftN can't be bound.

Your bindings are saved with your settings and, when you're signed in, in your account as well.

QWERTZ and Mac

  • Ctrl and a letter follow the letter your keyboard types. On a German keyboard, CtrlZ is the key with the Z.
  • Alt and a letter follow the key's position. That way they also work on the Mac, where Option changes the typed character. On QWERTZ, Y and Z are swapped in this case; the default shortcuts don't use these two keys.
  • Punctuation such as /, . and , is recognized by the typed character, so it also works on German keyboards. Exception: Shift7 loads workspace 7, even though it types a slash on QWERTZ. For the indicators menu, use the / key on the numeric keypad there or the Indicators button; for Ctrl/, likewise Ctrl and the / key on the numeric keypad.
  • AltGr: Combinations with AltGr don't trigger a shortcut, so you can type special characters such as @ normally.
  • Mac: CmdSpace is usually taken by Spotlight and then doesn't reach the terminal. In that case, rebind the symbol search. The terminal shows Redo as ⌘Y, with the secondary binding on as ⌘⇧Z.

Commands without their own shortcut

Everything without a shortcut is in the super search (CtrlK). Type a keyword, select with ↑ ↓ and run with Enter. The results are in the groups ACTIONS, TIMEFRAME, INDICATORS and SYMBOLS; next to an action are its area and, if it has one, its shortcut. SYMBOLS lists the matching charts with their intervals: → and ← at the end of the search text choose an interval, and nvidia 4h opens NVIDIA right on the 4-hour chart (see Charts through the super search). The actions dialog (CtrlP) searches actions only.
