ChartCompare and multi-chart
Compare and multi-chart
Overlay up to five symbols as lines on the chart and show up to 16 charts side by side, with a shared symbol, interval and crosshair.
There are two ways to see several markets at once: Compare adds more symbols as lines to the same chart, Multi-chart splits the chart area into several charts.
Compare symbols
- Click + in the top bar, right next to the symbol button (“Compare symbol”).
- Search for the symbol, for example
ETH, and choose it with a click or Enter. - The symbol appears as a colored line over your chart. A notice confirms: “Comparing ETH with BTC”.
- The terminal then asks: Show the shared time range? With Fit, it sets an interval that suits the time range all lines have in common and shows it from the first shared candle to today. If you compare Bitcoin (from 2011) with Cardano (from April 2018), the chart starts on the left at Cardano's first candle. No, thanks leaves the interval and view as they are.
How to read the comparison:
- Each line starts at the first candle on the left of the view, at the close of your main symbol. How far it moves away from there is its movement since that point.
- If you pan or zoom the chart, this starting point stays where it is: the lines move with the chart instead of jumping against each other. To the left of the starting point, they show where they stood before. A new starting point at the left edge is set by a time range in the footer bar, another interval or symbol, resetting the view and the first comparison.
- For this to work, a normal scale switches to Percent on its own with the first comparison. When you remove the last comparison, it goes back, unless you changed the mode yourself.
- The legend lists each compared symbol with a color dot and its change, and the price axis shows a label in its color.
- Own scale: A comparison's line sits on the scale of your main symbol. To read its own prices, click the scale icon next to the × in its legend row. Its prices then appear on the price axis, a little smaller and in its color, each centered between the labels of your main symbol. If you turn this on for several comparisons, they take turns in the gaps. A second click hides the scale again.
- The lines follow your chart's interval and align by time. That's why they work with every chart type, including Renko and tick bars.
Rules:
- At most five comparisons, in the colors yellow, violet, orange, blue and pink.
- Each symbol only once, and not the symbol the chart itself shows. The terminal tells you when something isn't possible (“Maximum of 5 comparisons”, “ETH is already being compared”).
Remove a comparison with the × in its legend row. To remove them all at once, use Remove comparison in the super search (CtrlK). Comparisons belong to the workspace and can be undone with CtrlZ.
ETH/BTC. How that works is explained in Symbol search.Multi-chart
- Click Multi-chart in the top bar. The icon shows the current grid.
- Choose a grid on the left under LAYOUTS. The rows stand for the number of charts: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12 and 16, many of them in several arrangements.
- Or move over the 4 × 4 field on the right under CUSTOM GRID until the display is right (for example “3 × 2”), and click.
To go back to one chart, use the layout with the 1.
The main chart and the other charts
The first chart in the grid (top left, in uneven grids the large one) is your main chart with everything that goes with it: chart type, indicators, legend, comparisons, heatmap and footprint.
The other charts are leaner:
- They show candles with their own header: symbol, interval, last price and change.
- They take the grid, crosshair and last-price line from the chart settings; they don't show the countdown and alert lines. They show indicators as soon as you drag some into them (see below).
- The Status line of the chart settings applies to them as well: if you hide the symbol name, OHLC values, change, or the names, values and sources of indicators, they are hidden in every chart of the grid. Without names, all that's left of the symbol in the header is the small arrow you use to change this chart's symbol.
- You can pan, zoom and draw in them. Their right-click menu is shorter, see Context menus.
- The exchange selection in the top bar applies to them too.
- On narrow charts the price axis disappears (below 240 px wide), on flat charts the time axis (below 110 px high).
By default, the other charts show, in order, ETH, SOL, BNB, XRP, DOGE, ADA, AVAX, LINK, SUI, LTC, DOT, TON, NEAR, APT and TRX, with the intervals 4h, 15m, 1d, 5m, 1w, 30m and 1m (leaving out the main chart's interval).
- Own symbol: A click on the symbol in a chart's header opens the symbol search for that chart only. The main chart and the address stay as they are; the chart keeps its interval. If Symbol is synced, the click opens the main chart's search, because all charts then follow it.
- Move indicators: Drag an indicator's row in the legend or the header of its pane onto another chart. The target chart lights up (“Move ‘Open Interest’ to SOL · 4h”); when you let go, the indicator moves there with its settings and calculates on that chart's symbol. Esc cancels, and Undo brings it back. Dragging works with a mouse or trackpad, not by touch.
Sync
On the right of the multi-chart menu under SYNC:
| Toggle | Effect |
|---|---|
| Symbol | All charts show the main chart's symbol. |
| Interval | All charts show the main chart's interval. |
| Crosshair | The crosshair sits at the same time in all charts (on by default). |
With Symbol on and Interval off, for example, you see BTC on 4h, 15m and 1d at the same time.
Drawings belong to their symbol. Whether a new drawing appears in all charts with this symbol is set in the drawing toolbar under Sync drawings, see Drawing tools.
Multi-chart with Replay and snapshot
- In Replay, all charts only show the candles up to the replay time, each on its own interval.
- A snapshot captures the whole chart area, that is, all charts in the grid.
The grid and the sync settings belong to your workspace.
