ChartContext menus

Context menus

What a right-click offers on the chart, on the price axis, on a multi-chart window and on the top bar.

A right-click in the terminal opens its own menus instead of the browser menu. What they contain depends on where you click. On touchscreens, open them by holding two fingers still on the chart.

Many entries show their keyboard shortcut next to them. Prices in the menu refer to the spot you clicked.

Right-click on the chart

EntryWhat it does
Paste (CtrlV)pastes a copied drawing; grayed out while nothing is copied
Copy pricecopies the price at the spot you clicked to the clipboard
Anchored VWAP from hereanchors a VWAP to the candle under the mouse pointer, see Order flow
Reset chart view (AltR)default view with the newest candles, pane heights reset, automatic scaling on
Alert on … at …opens a new alert on this symbol at the price of the spot you clicked, see Alerts
Remove … indicatorsremoves all active indicators; only there when some are active
Remove … alertsremoves all alerts on this symbol; only there when there are any
GridNo grid, Vertical only, Horizontal only or Vertical & horizontal
Save screenshotdownloads the chart as an image right away, see Snapshots
Commands… (CtrlK)opens the super search
Quick tools… (Alt)opens the quick tool wheel editor at the spot you clicked
Settings…opens the chart settings on the Symbol tab

Good to know:

  • If you click in an indicator pane rather than on the price chart, there is no price at that spot: Copy price is grayed out, and the alert starts at the last price.
  • Removing indicators and alerts shows a notice with Undo.
  • AltS is shown next to Save screenshot. That key, however, opens the snapshot dialog with format, border and note; the menu entry saves without asking.
  • Quick tools… is only available on a computer.

Right-click on the price axis

EntryWhat it does
Reset price scalescale Normal, not inverted, automatic scaling on; the visible time range stays
Alert at …opens a new alert at the price of the spot you clicked
Invert scale (AltI)turns the price axis upside down; a check mark shows whether it is inverted
Normalprices
Percent (AltP)movement since the first visible candle
Indexed to 100first visible candle is 100
Logarithmic (AltL)logarithmic scale
LabelsLast price, Price labels, Countdown to candle close, High/low, Alerts
LinesLast price, Alerts
Scale settings…opens the chart settings on the Scales tab

The active scale mode has a check mark. If you choose Percent, Indexed or Logarithmic again, the scale goes back to Normal. Under Labels and Lines you switch each display individually, and the menu stays open while you do. What each mode means is explained in Scale and view.

In a multi-chart window

In the additional windows of a multi-chart, the menus are shorter and refer to the symbol of that window:

  • Chart: Paste, Copy price, Reset chart view (this window only), Alert on … at …, Remove alerts, Grid, Save screenshot, Commands, Quick tools and Settings. Anchored VWAP and Remove indicators are only available on the main chart.
  • Price axis: Reset price scale (here: automatic scaling of this window), Alert at …, Labels with Last price and Price labels, Lines with Last price, Scale settings. Scale mode and Invert are only available on the main chart.

Grid, Labels and Lines are chart settings: what you switch in one window applies to all charts.

Right-click on the top bar

A right-click on an empty spot of the top bar opens TOP BAR: check which buttons are visible, choose between Auto, Always and Icons only under Label, and reset everything with Restore defaults. The super search opens the same menu with Customize top bar. More on this in The interface.

More mouse shortcuts

Not menus, but handy:

  • Double-click on a legend row or in an indicator pane: opens its settings.
  • Double-click on the time axis: default view. Double-click on the price axis: automatic scaling.
  • Click on the bell of an alert line: opens the alert; drag the line itself to a new price.
