AlertsAlerts
Alerts
Get notified when the price, CVD, volume delta, open interest, funding rate or your own script meets a condition.
An alert watches a value for you and reports as soon as its condition is met: as a popup in the terminal, with a sound, by Discord, Telegram, email, push or webhook. Each alert belongs to a symbol and remembers the timeframe of the chart you create it on.
Create an alert
There are several ways, all of which open the same Create alert dialog:
- Right-click the price scale → Alert at {price}: at the price under the mouse pointer.
- Right-click the chart → Alert on {symbol} at {price}: also at the price under the mouse pointer.
- AltA (Mac: OptionA): at the price under the crosshair. If the mouse isn't over the price chart, the dialog takes the last price.
- + Alert in the Alerts widget or in the chart settings on the Alerts tab: at the last price.
- DOM ladder: a click on a price row opens the dialog at that price.
- Super search (CtrlK, Mac: CmdK): “Alert at current price”, “New alert…” or “Alert with conditions…”.
- Code → My scripts → Bell: an alert on one of your scripts, see Conditions and script alerts.
On your phone, hold two fingers still on the chart. In the menu that opens, tap Alert on … at.
The dialog
The dialog's title shows the symbol the alert applies to, for example “Create alert BTCUSD”. On desktop, you drag it by its header, and the chart behind it stays visible and usable. It has three tabs:
- Settings: source, condition, value, trigger, expiration and name.
- Conditions: further conditions, linked with AND or OR (Plus and up).
- Notifications: where the alert reports to, see Notifications.
Create saves the alert; Enter in the Value or Name field does the same.
Source
The source is the value the alert watches.
| Source | What is measured | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Price | The symbol's last price | price of the symbol |
| CVD | Buy minus sell volume of the last 24 hours, rolling | $M |
| Volume delta | Buy minus sell volume of the current candle in the alert's timeframe | $M |
| Open interest | Open positions of the perpetual | $M |
| Funding rate | Current funding rate | % per 8 h |
| Script · {name} | A signal from your script or its first plot | value of the script |
Not every symbol has every source. Open interest and funding rate are only available for crypto perpetuals, CVD and volume delta only for crypto. If a source is missing, its chip is grayed out and the dialog tells you why, for example “Open interest and funding rate not available for SPY”. Ratio and spread charts such as ETH/BTC only know the price.
The alert's CVD and volume delta count across several exchanges. They therefore don't necessarily match a CVD pane on the chart that reads only one exchange. If the dialog shows “Current –”, there's no value right now and the condition counts as not met.
Funding rates that an exchange settles on a different schedule are converted to 8 hours by the terminal, so all values are comparable.
Condition and value
| Condition | Triggers when… |
|---|---|
| Crosses | the value passes the threshold in either direction |
| Crosses up | the value rises above the threshold from below (at or under it) |
| Crosses down | the value falls below the threshold from above (at or over it) |
| Greater than | the value is above the threshold |
| Less than | the value is below the threshold |
Enter the threshold in the Value field. German and English notation both work, so “85.000,50” as well as “85000.5”. With − and + next to it, you move the value in sensible steps (for Bitcoin, for example, by 10). Below it you see how far the value is from the current price, such as “+1.25% from the current price”.
If you choose another source, Value starts at that source's current value. For CVD, the first value can take a few seconds; it's then filled in.
Trigger
The trigger sets how often an alert may report.
| Trigger | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Once | Triggers once and then turns itself off. |
| Once per candle | At most once per candle of the timeframe you created the alert in. |
| On candle close | Only checks closed candles, with the candle's last value, and reports once per candle. |
| Every time | Every time the condition becomes true again, at least 60 seconds apart. Each crossing counts separately. |
The timeframe comes from the chart: if you create an alert on the 1-hour chart, “Once per candle” means at most once per hour, even if you later switch to another timeframe. The same timeframe applies to volume delta, liquidations, RSI (14) and RVOL.
Expiration and name
Under Expiration, choose Unlimited, 1 day, 1 week or 1 month. The time runs from when you create the alert or from the moment you change the expiration. When it's up, the terminal reports “Alert expired” and turns the alert off. If you turn it back on, the expiration starts over.
If you leave Name empty, the alert gets a name from its settings, such as “BTCUSD crosses 85,000.00”. This name adapts when you change the alert later. A name of your own stays.
When alerts are checked
The terminal continuously checks all alerts that are turned on, including those for symbols other than the one on the chart.
- Signed out, your alerts live only in this browser. They are checked while the terminal is open here, and they only report in the terminal and with a sound.
- Signed in, they live in your account and are there on every device. They are then checked even when no terminal is open, so push, Telegram, email, Discord and webhook still get through. Each trigger is delivered only once.
Up to 5 alerts can be active at the same time on Free, 50 on Plus and 300 on Pro. Of those, up to 10 on Plus and 50 on Pro can be script alerts. Alerts that are turned off don't count.
