News in the chart
News in the chart places news and economic calendar events as markers at the bottom edge of the price pane, exactly at their time. This lets you see which news or event may be behind a move, and which calendar events are still coming up.
What you see
| Marker | Meaning |
|---|---|
| M (yellow) | Macro: economic data, Fed rate decisions, macro news |
| K (text color) | Crypto: news and calendar events around crypto, such as options and futures expiry dates |
| R (text color) | Regulation |
- Filled markers are past events, hollow markers with a dashed line upward are upcoming calendar events. To the right of the last candle, the chart leaves room for them, at most 12% of the loaded candles.
- Larger markers have high relevance.
- Number on the marker: When events are so close together that the markers would touch, the chart merges them into one. It then shows the most relevant one: first by relevance, then upcoming before past, then the newest.
When you hover over a marker, a card opens with the category, “SCHEDULED” for upcoming calendar events, “HIGH RELEVANCE” for important events, the date and time, and the title. For a merged marker, it lists up to four titles and “+N more”.
How to read it
- A large candle right at an M marker is often the reaction to the number or the decision.
- Hollow markers to the right of the price are calendar events you should keep an eye on when you have open positions: volatility often rises around rate decisions and large expiries.
- News does not necessarily explain a move. Check whether the candle starts before or after the marker.
Good to know
- A marker's time is the time of the news or calendar event. On large timeframes, many events fall into one candle and are merged.
- The full news stream and the calendar are shown by the “News & calendar” widget.
