GlossaryTrendfinder
Trendfinder
The Trendfinder merges two independent trend measurements into one line: a filter difference in ATR units and a small learning network of six trend features. The sign is the direction, a zero crossing is the trend change, and the distance from zero is the strength.
How to read it
| Zone | Range |
|---|---|
| Strong uptrend | from +0.75 |
| Uptrend | +0.25 to +0.75 |
| Neutral | −0.25 to +0.25 |
| Downtrend | −0.75 to −0.25 |
| Strong downtrend | below −0.75 |
Reference lines sit at ±0.25 and ±0.75, and the zero line is emphasized. Beyond +0.75 the pane has a greenish background, beyond −0.75 a reddish one.
- As a filter, not a trigger: Read the sign first, then take only signals in that direction.
- Values around zero usually mean that the network and the filter block contradict each other, for example when the network still reports up but the filter block is braking after a series of rising candles.
- Values beyond ±1 come from the scaling: the signal is currently moving more than usual.
Limitations
- Not a forecasting model: The network only learns whether the price is above its 50-candle mean. It describes the current trend and does not predict a future price.
- The fixed lengths count candles and mean a different time span on every interval. Intended for 4H to 1W.
