Workspace and saving
Your workspace is backed up automatically. Ctrl+S saves it to the open layout.
Your workspace in the terminal, also called the “desk”, is everything you see right now: the chart with its settings, your indicators, the widgets and your drawings. You save named workspaces as layouts.
What is included
| Area | What is saved |
|---|---|
| Chart | Interval, chart type, scale (normal, percent, indexed, logarithmic, inverted), exchange selection, comparison symbols, height of the sub-panes and chart settings such as candle colors and grid |
| Multi-chart | The split, the symbols and intervals of the additional charts, and what is synced |
| Indicators | All indicators with their settings, including hidden ones |
| Order book heatmap | Whether it is on and how it is set up |
| Widgets | Both widget columns with the settings of each widget |
| Drawings | Your drawings, separately for each symbol |
Your theme (color theme, light or dark), your keyboard shortcuts and your alerts are not included. They stay the same no matter which layout you open.
The current state is backed up automatically
The terminal saves every change in your browser shortly after you make it. If you are signed in, that state also reaches your account a few seconds later. When you close the tab and open the terminal again, everything is as you left it.
Next to the Layout button in the top bar you can always see what is open: the name of the layout or “Untitled”.
Saving
Press CtrlS (Mac: CmdS) or click Save in the top bar:
- If one of your layouts is open, the changes go into exactly that layout. You see “‘Main’ saved”.
- If none of your own layouts is open (a template, a community layout or “Untitled”), a new layout is created. It then becomes the open one.
A layout opens on its symbol: If you created “4h Bitcoin” on BTC and open it while ETH is on the chart, the terminal first switches to BTC and opens the layout there. Templates, on the other hand, are applied to the symbol currently on the chart.
A layout stays on its symbol: If you change the symbol on the chart while a layout is open, Save and autosave keep saving your changes to the layout, but its symbol stays the one you created it on. That is the symbol it is listed under in your lists and under Community. For another symbol, use Make a copy… to create a new layout while the symbol you want is on the chart.
Nothing is lost when you switch: If you open another layout after changing something in one of your layouts, the terminal first saves the changes to the previous layout. If saving fails, the previous layout stays open and a message tells you why.
Drawings you created with Sync globally always stay on the chart, no matter which layout you open. You can find this setting in the drawing toolbar under Sync drawings → New drawings.
What happened to the workspaces
There used to be nine workspace slots that you loaded with Shift1 to Shift9, and CtrlS saved to one of these slots instead of the open layout. That no longer exists: layouts with folders can do the same and more.
If you had saved workspaces, the layout browser shows the prompt Add as layouts once under My layouts. One click creates them as layouts in the “Workspaces” folder. Import under My layouts reads an older export file (coindome-workspaces.json) the same way.
On several devices
If you are signed in, your layouts and your current workspace are stored in your account. You see them on another computer, in another browser or on your phone as soon as you sign in there.
If you open the terminal and your account has a newer workspace from another device, the terminal loads it, as long as you have not changed anything since opening. If you have already changed something, your state here stays.
Reset everything
To start with a fresh terminal, search for “Reset terminal to defaults” in the super search (CtrlK). The current workspace goes back to the default values, your layouts stay. The message that follows has an Undo button in case you change your mind.
