Trading journal
Log and evaluate trades, with key metrics, an equity curve, breakdowns by setup, market and weekday, and a calendar with daily PnL.
In the trading journal, you record your trades and see what works: which setups make money, on which weekdays you lose and how your account is developing. Closed paper trades land here automatically.
Opening
- Top bar → Journal. In narrow windows, the button is in the More menu (the three dots).
- Super search (CtrlK, Mac: CmdK) → “Open trading journal”
- In the Paper trading widget → View in journal
The journal opens as a window over the terminal. At the top are the number of trades, the period and “Fees 0.05% per side”, and next to them the Trades, Statistics and Calendar tabs and the Log trade button.
Key metrics
Six key metrics sit above all tabs:
| Metric | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Net PnL | Sum of all results after fees |
| Trades | Number of trades |
| Win rate | Share of trades with a profit |
| Avg. R per trade | Average result in multiples of risk |
| Profit factor | Sum of profits divided by sum of losses (“∞” with no losses) |
| Max drawdown | Largest decline of the equity curve from a high |
Logging a trade
- Click Log trade. The form opens on the right.
- Market: by default, the symbol on the chart. You can type any ticker, such as
ETHorbtcusdt. - Choose Long or Short.
- Enter Entry, Exit, Stop and Size in $. Entry = current price takes the market's price.
- Date and time: when the trade was closed, in your time zone. By default, now.
- Choose a Setup: Breakout, Range, Trend following, Order flow, News or Mean reversion.
- Write a Note, such as your reasoning, mistakes or emotions.
- You already see the result at the bottom, such as “Result +$123 · +1.50 R”. Click Save.
Save stays locked until entry, exit, stop and size are valid and the stop is on the correct side: below the entry for long, above it for short. You can write numbers in German or English format; 10.000 is ten thousand.
How it's calculated
- PnL = direction × (exit / entry − 1) × size − fees
- Fees: 0.05% of the size at entry and again at exit. Trades from Hyperliquid carry the fees they actually paid.
- Risk = distance from entry to stop in percent × size
- R = PnL / risk. A trade without a stop distance has no R; it shows “–”.
Trades
The table shows the trades, newest at the top, with Date, Market, Side, Entry → Exit, Size, PnL, R and Setup. Clicking a row opens the details on the right:
- Result in dollars, plus R and the price move in percent
- Entry, exit, size and fees
- Stop (for R): If you enter or change a stop, the journal recalculates the R. Empty means no stop.
- Setup: clicking a chip categorizes the trade, and a second click removes the setup again.
- Note: You can add to it here. It's saved as soon as you leave the field or close the details.
- Open in chart: closes the journal and opens the market in the chart
- Delete: removes the trade. The message that follows has Undo.
Statistics
- Cumulative PnL: your equity curve across all trades. Hover over it or move with the arrow keys to see the balance after each trade.
- By setup, By market and Long and short: for each group, the number of trades, the win rate and the PnL.
- By weekday: PnL per weekday as bars, in your time zone.
- Key metrics: Avg. win, Avg. loss, Best trade, Worst trade, Longest winning streak and Longest losing streak.
Calendar
A month at a glance: each day with trades is colored by its PnL and shows the amount and the number of trades. Use the arrows to move between months; at the top are the month's PnL and, for example, “12 trades on 7 days”. The week starts on Monday.
Paper trades in the journal
When you close a position in Paper trading, or it closes through take profit, stop loss or liquidation, the terminal logs it automatically: with the setup “Paper” and a note like “Paper trading · Take profit · 5×”. If the position had no stop loss, the trade has no R. Each position goes into the journal only once, even if you have several tabs or devices open.
Hyperliquid trades in the journal
If your Hyperliquid wallet is connected, the terminal automatically logs every closed position from there, with the real fees and without a stop and setup, which you add in the details. Below the key metrics are the address, when it last synced, and Sync now. When you open the journal, the terminal fetches new trades on its own.
Where your trades are stored
- Signed in, your trades are stored in your account and are the same on all devices.
- Not signed in, they stay in this browser, and the top reads “saved in this browser only”. If you sign in later, the terminal transfers them to your account once.
- If your account can't be reached right now, the terminal saves new trades in the browser for the time being and transfers them the next time you open it. A notice at the top tells you so.
If several members use the same browser, each one sees only their own trades after signing in.
