GlossaryUS Dollar Index (DXY)
US Dollar Index (DXY)
The US Dollar Index (DXY) measures the value of the US dollar against a basket of six major currencies. When it rises, the dollar is getting stronger. In the pane it is called “DXY”.
How to read it
- A rising dollar tightens liquidity worldwide and in the past has often moved against Bitcoin and other risk assets. A falling dollar was usually a tailwind.
- The relationship is not a fixed rule. There are phases in which the dollar and Bitcoin rise together.
- The direction over several weeks says more than the level.
Good to know
- The pane works on any symbol; its series does not depend on the chart.
- One value per trading day, with two decimal places. On an hourly chart it stays the same all day; on weekends, Friday's value applies.
- A value counts as current for five days. If the latest one is older, the line ends and the pane header shows “DXY · as of {date}”.
- The only settings are in the Style tab: Appearance (default: line).
