GlossaryRevenue forecast

Revenue forecast

The revenue that analysts expected for each quarter, as a line in its own pane below the chart. Each point sits on the day of the quarterly report and shows the consensus the market took into that report. After that, the line continues, dashed, through the consensus for the coming quarters.

What is drawn

Each point is the average revenue that analysts expected for a quarter, as it stood before the report. It sits on the day of the report: that is where the expectation meets the result. If you place the Revenue indicator with the Quarter period next to it, you can see on each report day whether the company beat or missed the expectation.

Filled points are quarters already reported, hollow points the expectation for quarters still to come; the next one sits on the date of the next report.

When you hover over a filled point, the pane shows the expected revenue, the actual reported revenue and the Deviation in percent. Over a hollow point you see the expected report date and how many analysts are estimating the quarter.

Good to know

  • Only for stocks with analyst estimates; small companies without coverage appear in the menu with “no data”.
  • How far the line goes back depends on how long revenue estimates have been available for the company. The expectation for the coming quarters is always included.
  • In replay, the line shows only what had been reported up to the replay time, and no expectation for the future.
