Indicators overview

The indicators menu with categories and search, adding and removing, the legend, panes below the chart, and the settings dialog.

The terminal gives you more than 120 official indicators: classics such as RSI, MACD, and moving averages, order flow tools such as the heatmap and footprint, derivatives data, on-chain metrics, macro series, and the studies mantacharts developed itself. On top of that come your own scripts and those of the community.

This page explains how to find indicators, add them to the chart, configure them, and remove them again. Hiding layers and saving whole setups is covered in Layers and saved views. What each indicator measures is described on the category pages:

Opening the indicators menu

You have three ways:

  1. Top bar → Indicators. The number on the button shows how many indicators are currently on the chart.
  2. The / key, as long as the focus isn't in an input field.
  3. The super search with CtrlK (Mac: CmdK): Type a name, and the results appear under “Indicators”. Enter turns the highlighted indicator on or off; active ones are marked “Active”.

When the menu opens, the cursor is in the search field, so you can start typing right away.

How the menu is organized

Source: Official, Community, Custom

At the top right, you choose whose indicators you see:

  • Official: everything that ships with mantacharts. This is the default view.
  • Community: published scripts by other members, with “by @name” after the title.
  • Custom: your own CoinScript indicators. Next to them, you see their status (“Private”, “Public”, or “Invite only”) and the “Publish” or “Manage” buttons.

The Script button next to the search field opens the code editor, where you write your own indicator. How that works is explained in the CoinScript section.

Categories

Below the search field are the categories, each with its number of entries:

TabWhat's in it
Allall entries from the selected source
Indicatorseverything calculated from price and volume alone: classics, oscillators, averages, channels, mantacharts studies
Companiesa stock's revenue, earnings, P/E, forecasts, margin, and balance sheet, plus mNAV and hashprice for treasury companies and miners, each in a pane below the chart, and crypto holdings as a line on the chart; stocks only
Order flowheatmap, trades, footprint, profiles, liquidations, open interest, funding
On-chainblockchain data such as MVRV, SOPR, netflow, hashrate
Macrointerest rates, money supply, the dollar, sentiment, stablecoins, news, and prediction markets
Optionsthe GEX profile for BTC and ETH

The category depends on the kind of data an indicator evaluates: anything that only needs the price is under Indicators, anything that reads blockchain data is under On-chain, and so on. At the very top of each category are the basic tools, without a heading; below them come groups with their own headings, for example “Oscillators”, “Moving averages”, or “Macro & liquidity”. In the All tab, each name has its category in small print in front of it.

When the chart shows a stock, Order flow and On-chain are missing, both as tabs and in All and the search. The exception is stocks with a link to crypto, such as Strategy, Coinbase, the Bitcoin miners, or Bitcoin and Ether ETFs: there, all categories are available. Conversely, the Companies tab exists only on stocks. The Active tab always shows what is already on the chart.

The search covers names, descriptions, and group names, so “oscillators”, “liquidity”, or “halving” will also find something. You can also find the exchange netflow under its English name, “exchange netflow”.

The description under each name is cut off after two lines. Hover over it to see all of it.

The bottom right of the menu shows how many indicators are currently active.

Adding and removing

Each row has a button on the right. Clicking anywhere on the row, including the name or description, does the same as this button:

  • + Add puts the indicator on the chart with its default values. A short message confirms this.
  • ✓ 2× · + More shows that it is already there (and how many times). A click adds another one, such as a second CVD for perps or a second EMA with a different length. The trash can to its right removes it again; if there are several, it removes all of them at once. To remove a single one of several, use the Active tab, the legend, or the pane header.
  • ✓ Active appears on entries that exist only once (order book heatmap, footprint, TPO, volume, and widgets). A click removes them again.
  • no data (dashed, not clickable) means the indicator can't draw anything for the symbol or interval on the chart. Hover over it to see the reason in the tooltip, for example “Only available for Bitcoin.”, “AAPL has no order book data.”, or “TPO / Market Profile needs an interval of 1h or less”. This is also where it says so if the data can't be loaded right now.

The common moving averages have their own entries (EMA 9, EMA 20, EMA 50…); you can add the SMA and EMA entries from the classics as often as you like and set each one to its own length.

How does an indicator work?

The ? next to the name opens the indicator's explanation: what it shows, how it is calculated, how to read it, and what its settings do. Simple indicators get a short explanation, the more complex ones all their formulas. At the bottom of the window, Add to chart adds it directly. Back at the top left (or Esc) takes you back to the menu, exactly where you were.

Plan lock

Some entries carry a lock with “Plus” or “Pro”:

PlanIndicators
PlusOrder book heatmap, liquidation heatmap, all on-chain indicators, and the mantacharts studies (Trendfinder, Rainbow, Z-Score, 4-year cycle)
ProFootprint, TPO / Market Profile, GEX profile, Hyperliquid stop/TP map

If your plan doesn't cover it, “+ Add” opens the plans dialog instead of adding the indicator. What each plan includes is listed under Plans.

Invite-only community scripts

Some community scripts are available by invitation only and carry the “Invite only” badge. Request access asks the author for access, and the button then shows “Requested”. If the button says “Invite only” instead, the author isn't accepting requests. If you have been invited, the entry shows “Invited” and you add it as usual.

Removing everything at once

Right-click the chart → “Remove 3 indicators” (the number adjusts) clears the chart in one step. In the message that follows, “Undo” brings everything back. The same action is available in the super search as “Remove all indicators”.

Tip. You can undo any change to indicators with CtrlZ (Mac: CmdZ) and redo it with CtrlY.

On the chart or in a separate pane

An indicator ends up in one of two places:

  • On the main chart (overlay): It is drawn directly over the candles, such as moving averages, Bollinger Bands, VWAP, the heatmap, or the Rainbow. It gets a row in the legend at the top left.
  • In a separate pane below the chart: Oscillators such as RSI and MACD, open interest, funding, or macro series have their own scale and their own header.

Where an indicator ends up is fixed. One exception is COT positioning: it opens the “COT report” widget in a widget column.

The legend at the top left

Each indicator on the main chart has a row in the legend: its name with the configured values (for example “EMA 20” or “BB 20 2”), a dot in its color, and the values at the crosshair position. Hover over the row and three buttons appear:

ButtonEffect
EyeHide or show again. A hidden indicator stays in the legend with a faded row.
GearOpen settings
Trash canRemove

Double-clicking the row also opens the settings. You can also reach the buttons with the Tab key. If an indicator can't draw anything for the symbol, the reason appears in small print in its row.

For a more compact look, use color dots: In the chart settings, under Status line › Appearance, select Color dots. The indicators then sit side by side as a row of filled dots in their colors, slightly overlapping. Hover over a dot and its row with the name, values, and buttons appears below it. Clicking a dot opens its settings; on a phone, it takes a second tap. A hidden indicator has a faded dot.

Panes below the chart

Each pane has a header at the top left with its title and the values at the crosshair, followed by the source, for example “Aggregated” or “Binance”. What the header shows is set in the chart settings under Status line. Hover over the header and four buttons appear:

ButtonEffect
EyeHide the pane
GearOpen settings
Trash canRemove, with “Undo” in the message
ArrowCollapse: The pane shrinks to its title bar. A second click expands it again.

Double-clicking inside a pane also opens its settings.

Resizing: Drag the divider between two panes up or down; it lights up when you hover over it. This also works with the keyboard: Focus the divider with Tab and move it with ↑ and ↓ (in larger steps with Shift); Home and End push it all the way.

Merging and detaching panes

Drag a pane's header onto another pane above or below it. The target lights up (“‘CVD · Perps’ into this pane”); when you let go, both draw in that one pane. The header then has one row per indicator, each with the eye, gear, Detach, and remove.

  • Detach gives the indicator its own pane again, directly below the shared one. The same thing happens when you drag its row onto the price chart.
  • In a shared pane, the indicators share one scale. If their values are far apart (one CVD at −23K, another at +50K), turn on Own scale in the shared pane for each of them in the Axis tab of its settings: each line then fills the pane across its own range, as in common order flow terminals.
  • Each indicator has its label on the price axis. Under Axis → Axis label, it can show the name (such as “SPOT”) or custom text instead of the value.
  • Merging only works within one chart and not while the indicators are locked. The shared pane is saved with the workspace and in layouts.
Note. A hidden pane disappears from the chart completely. You can bring it back with the eye in the Layers panel or in the settings dialog.

Locking and hiding

The drawing toolbar on the left has two toggles that also apply to indicators:

  • Lock drawings and indicators → Lock indicators (or “Lock all”): Indicators can no longer be removed, and the pane sizes are fixed. Collapsing still works. If you try anyway, the terminal shows “Indicators are locked”.
  • Hide all drawing tools → Hide indicators (or “Hide all”): All indicators are temporarily not drawn but keep their settings.

The settings dialog

You open it with the gear in the legend, the pane header, or the Layers panel, by double-clicking a legend row or a pane, or through the super search with “Indicator settings…”.

Structure

  • On the left are all indicators on the chart, grouped into Main chart, Widgets, and Panes. Click a name to configure it. The eye next to it hides or shows it.
  • On the right are the settings of the selected indicator, split into tabs. Most have General (calculation inputs such as length or source) and Style (colors, line width). Some have further tabs such as Display, Thresholds, or Zones. If an indicator has only one section, there are no tabs.
  • At the bottom, Restore defaults resets the selected indicator to its default values. Done closes the dialog.

Every change takes effect on the chart immediately; there's nothing to save. You can move the dialog by its title bar if it's covering something.

Study colors

Many pane indicators color their curve by zone; the RSI, for example, looks different in the overbought range than in the neutral one. In the Style tab, turn off Study colors if you want the whole curve in a single color, then pick it below under Color.

Appearance

Indicators with a main curve, such as open interest, funding, CVD, RSI, MACD, OBV, or a moving average, can be drawn in five ways, set in the Style tab under Appearance:

AppearanceWhat it looks like
Columnscolumns from the zero line, colored by whether the value rose or fell from the previous one
Candlescandles with open, high, low, and close; where the indicator has none of its own, each candle runs from the previous value to the current one
Linethe curve as a line
Areathe line with a filled area below it
Baselinetwo colors above and below a reference line: 0 where the values cross zero, the midpoint 50 for the RSI, otherwise the first visible value

By default, every indicator draws the way it always has. For MACD, the appearance applies to the histogram; the MACD and signal lines stay lines.

Tip. For a script of your own, the gear opens its settings; the AI icon next to it opens it in the MantaAi panel. For the GEX profile, the gear opens the “Options” widget, and for prediction markets at price, the “Prediction markets” widget.

What gets saved

Which indicators are on the chart, their settings, and what is hidden are part of your workspace and are saved with it. You can also store setups you use often as a view in the Layers panel.

Good to know

  • Bitcoin models: Many mantacharts studies are calibrated to Bitcoin, such as the Rainbow, the 4-year cycle, or the on-chain models. On other symbols, they appear in the menu with “no data” and the note “Calibrated to Bitcoin; not meaningful for other symbols.”
  • Loading time: Macro, on-chain, and derivatives indicators briefly show “Loading…” in the pane header until their series has arrived.
  • On your phone: How the menu and legend work there is explained in Indicators and widgets on your phone.
